Overview
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) provides IP addresses to computers on many parts of campus and in the residence halls.
DHCP allows administrators to manage network host assignments from a single DHCP server. This method helps reduce the work required when managing a large network.
Texas A&M Technology Services offers a university wide DHCP service that can be viewed through the Infoblox interface. Technology Services recommends all departments move to this service, however departments are allowed to manage their own DHCP. If you choose to manage your own DHCP server, please follow the steps below.
Getting Started
To run a DHCP server, a departmental administrator must meet the requirements below:
- Initial setup and configuration of the DHCP server must be coordinated with Technology Services Networking. Send mail to infoblox@tamu.edu to begin this process.
- IP addresses used in the department's DHCP address space must be claimed in Infoblox.
- DHCP logs of IP address/MAC address mapping and IP address users MUST be maintained for 30 days. Texas A&M Technology Services can provide this service if needed.
