Transportation Services transitioned over 260 cameras previously managed by the Division of IT to its Genetec system. The partnership streamlines a large portion of Texas A&M’s camera systems, enabling more efficient service management.
“I am very impressed with the innovative work transportation IT is doing and thank them for working hard to make this happen,” said interim Vice President for IT and CIO Ed Pierson. “Merging duplicative camera systems lowers costs for support and maintenance and improves operational efficiency.”
Transportation Services now manages over 1,400 cameras across campus, including 327 hosted cameras for campus departments. The team uses cameras extensively to enhance safety in parking areas and buses, monitor campus traffic and improve parking and transportation experiences for big campus events.
“Successfully transitioning over 260 cameras required extensive planning and implementation of a robust infrastructure to support the growing system,” said Lauri Brender, Associate Director of IT for Transportation Services. “Working with the Division of IT was a great experience, and we look forward to our continued partnership.”
The Division of IT will continue to assist with networking and data storage infrastructure needed to support the camera system.
